100 Mile Swim Club
Fun for the whole family
Do you like to swim? Do you frequently find yourself swimming laps at the Y pool, no matter rain, shine or snow? Have you noticed a persistent chlorine smell that seems to follow you constantly? Are most of your towels and swim suits wet most of the time?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, the Y’s new 100 Mile Swim Club might be for you! This exclusive club is open to all Y members who swim at least 100 miles in a calendar year. How far is 100 miles, you ask? Let’s start smaller. In our Y pool, one mile is 1,650 yards, 33 laps (50 yards), or 66 lengths (25 yards). That means 100 miles is 165,000 yards, 3300 laps or 6600 lengths.
The numbers may seem daunting, but when broken down over the course of a year, they’re not so bad; you might already be swimming 100 miles and not know it! Rounding up, it breaks down to 3,173.1 yards per week, 450.8 yards a day this leap year. Not so bad, huh?
If you think you’re up to the challenge, sign up at the front desk today! There will be a binder located in the pool area for you to record your distances, and fear not – there will be a reward at the end of the year! Besides bragging rights, of course, you’ll receive a prize at an “end of journey” banquet. What are you waiting for?
