Basketball
NO SESSIONS AT THIS TIME
AGE 3 COED
In this division children are introduced to the sport of basketball. They learn basic skills - dribbling, passing and shooting. The court is sized appropriately for this age group with a 6-foot goal. Coaches and officials take an active role in teaching and parental involvement is encouraged. A smaller ball is used. Teams practice for 20-25 minutes and then play a short game.
AGES 4-5 COED
Children in this division begin to learn many of the rules of basketball. The main focus is on offense and ball handling skills. An appropriate size court is used with a 6-foot goal. Games are officiated with an emphasis on learning. Teams practice for 20-25 minutes and then play a game.
1ST-2ND GRADE COED
Children expand their skills and knowledge of basketball through practices and games. Man to man is introduced and ball handling and shooting are emphasized. Children play on an appropriately-sized court with 8-foot goals. Teams have one practice and one game each week.
GIRLS 3RD-4TH GRADE
BOYS 3RD-4TH GRADE
Teamwork and skill development is emphasized. Man-to-man defense is introduced. Passing, shooting and defensive skills are strengthened. The goal height is 10 feet. Teams have one practice and one game each week.
GIRLS 5th-6TH, 7TH-8TH GRADE
BOYS 5th-6TH, 7TH-8TH GRADE
This division continues an emphasis on skill development, physical fitness and teamwork. All basketball rules apply with limited pressing. Teams have one practice and one game each week.
