Table of ContentsThe holidays are over and many people have thought long and hard about a New Year’s Resolution. Resolutions are tricky…you think of something you need to do better, decide that is going to be your goal, and then beat yourself up when you can’t stick to it. After many years of doing this I decided to make my goal more attainable. So, each month I pick a new resolution. This way, if it was really hard I only have approximately 30 days to endure it, but I can always continue it throughout the year as I add a new one at the beginning of the each month. The hard thing is to pick 12 things to work on. I have chosen to do things like giving up sweet tea, no fast food, kissing my husband good night each evening, cooking dinner for the family at least 4 nights during the week. It has been great challenging myself to do more each year. January 2010 was here before I knew it, so for this month I decided to take on organizing our family photos and finally finishing both my girls (now 4 and 2) baby books. Organization is not one of my strong suits, so this has not been going as well as I planned. This resolution may roll over to February as I add another one that is yet to be determined. So, I wish each of you the best of luck with your resolutions this year. And, in the spirit of my January resolution I am asking each of you to look back at your child’s baby book or pictures and reminisce. Oh, and if you would like to share one with us feel free to send it to my email (mclipp@ymcasi.org) and we will post it on our website. Important Dates:

The YMCA of Southern Indiana has kicked off the annual Strong Kids Campaign. At this point the staff campaign is ending and we have already raised over $28,000—28% of the campaign goal. The next phase is to get the community involved.
In order to continue this valuable tradition we need your help. There are children and families that will come to us for assistance. Last year the YMCA was able to provide scholarships to 31% of YMCA participants, as well as over $95,000 in aid for before and after school care. All of these families and children were unable to afford the full fee. The YMCA stands strong behind our mission that states we are “for all”. Help us raise these dollars that are critically needed if we are to provide the level of programming services anticipated in our community. Volunteers will be at your school site asking you to participate in the campaign by adding any dollar amount to your weekly draft. If you donate during this drive your name will go in the drawing to win one of four $25.00 program vouchers. |
Winter Break was such a great time! Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle was the theme on everyone’s mind. Participants loved the Flat Stanley Project, swimming, Roller Skating, Wii Tournament, making bird feeders, and hosting a Noon Year’s Eve Countdown (see attached picture). Check the YMCA website at www.ymcasi.org to see additional pictures from break. |
Looking for something fun to do over Spring Break? Well, join us beginning March 22 for a Spooktacular Spring Break. The YMCA will be offering activities ranging from Graveyard swims (in the YMCA Aquatic Center), Halloween Costume contest, a trip to Gattiland, Ghostly crafts, a visit from a Mystery Guest and much more for kids in K-6 grades. Spring Break Camp will be offered at both the Clark and Floyd County locations and is on a first come first serve basis. Registration flyers will be at the YMCA and on line by February 15. Call 812-283-9622 x 3 for prices and/or more information. |
Join Brother and Sister Bear for our Berenstain Bear Breakfast. We will eat, play fun games, do a craft, and listen to one of their famous stories. Bring your camera to get a picture with the famous Bears. The fun is on February 27 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Clark County Branch. $5 per child. |
The sites have been working hard on another great year of community service projects. These projects encompass the YMCA 4 Core Values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Sites raised over $2000 for the YAngel Tree with their Silent Auction baskets. This was such a great effort by all of our school sites. This effort allowed the YMCA to purchase Christmas presents for 147 children. January sites were to come up with their own Service Project…the winning project will become an all site project for the following year. And, the winning site wins a celebration party in February! |
