Youth Lessons

(6 - 12 years)
This program is comprised of five main components: personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue. Class participants are divided into four skill levels and progress as they accomplish their skills. Students will enroll in specific levels:

Polliwog (beginner)
A beginning class for swimmers who have never been in the water or may be uncomfortable around the water. Students will use an IFD and have assistance from the instructor at all times. Floating, Kicking, Front Crawl, and Back Crawl will be introduced.

Guppy (intermediate)
This class is for students who are comfortable in the water and do not need the assistance of an IFD. Students must be able to swim 20 feet without assistance. Students will begin to refine their stroke technique to become more efficient in the water and increase their endurance. Proper breathing technique is emphasized and sidestroke, elementary backstroke, and surface glides will be introduced.

Minnow (intermediate/advanced)
This class is for intermediate swimmers who are able to swim 25 yards front & back crawl without stopping. Students will refine rhythmic breathing and be introduced to rotary breathing and breaststroke.

Fish/Flying Fish (advanced)
This class is for advance swimmers who are able to swim 50 yards front & back crawl. Students will continue to master freestyle, backstroke, and breastroke and be introduced to butterfly. They will continue to practice and master sidestroke and elementary breaststroke and flip turns will be introduced.
