Summer Camp
| Today, 242 YMCA resident camps serve more than 250,000 campers each year, and the number of new YMCA camps is on the rise. Y camps spread from the shores of Maine to the peaks of the Colorado Rockies to the northwest beaches of Oahu, Hawaii. All YMCA camps continue to instill values and develop leaders based on Christian principles through positive role models, environmental stewardship, character and self-esteem building, and community building.
Our Staff Cares for Children
Staff for all programs are hired for their care and concern for children. All staff receive training through the YMCA and are certified in CPR and First Aid as well as Child Abuse Prevention, and YMCA Water Safety. Each camp is run by a Director with extensive experience in youth work and recreation. Most camps offer a staff to camper ratio of 1:15. Kinder Camp's ratio is 1:10. Camp Adventure Kids offer a ratio based on campers' needs.
The Search Institute has identified a framework of 40 developmental assets for children. The YMCA has adopted these assets and incorporates them into all YMCA programs. The following are three of the assets that our summer camp programs will stress every day:
- Self-esteem
- Caring adult role models
- Creative activities that include children's input

COUNSELOR IN TRAINING
Our Counselors in Training (C.I.T) program is a great opportunity for youth ages 12-15 to enjoy a summer of fun while learning all there is to be a YMCA counselor. Each C.I.T will be First Aid and CPR certified, work alongside our veteran staff, and attend a variety of leadership trainings. Once at camp they will be assigned to a YMCA staff person that will show them the ropes of teaching games, leading songs, and working with a small group of campers. Get the experience you need to be a future YMCA Camp Counselor. Click here for more information. |
